Mini reviews: The Gilded Ones, Skyhunter & more

Hello my friends! I’m sitting here getting distracted by my brother playing video games so this post might take a long time to write. I didn’t read a lot of books in February, and in march I’m determined to get back on track for my 100 book goal. I’ve read some really great books lately, and so I decided to review them all.

So open your tbrs and get ready for some recommendations!

Let’s start with a book I just finished this morning. When I started In The Role Of Brie Hutchens I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to like it. I’m not quite sure why, but the beginning is super rushed and I’m not super into that. But afterwards! This was great. I loved how it tackled religion and sexuality. Brie was a pretty awesome character who now holds a special place in my heart.

My final rating: ⭑⭑⭑⭑ 4/5 stars

I decided to (re)read this one to see if how different I feel about it now. I think this is a book that’s best read when you’re younger because I couldn’t quite get into the magic of it. Although I did love some of the ideas and a few of the characters (Charles Wallace in particular) it just kind of fell flat for me. This book gets an extra star because I did really like it as a kid.

Final rating: ⭑⭑⭑ 3/5 stars

Oh goodness where do I start with this book. I received it through February’s owl crate box, and I could not be happier. It has everything that I like, strong female characters, LGBTQ representation, found family and not too overpowering romance. I found myself genuinely feeling everything the characters felt and I loved the plot twists throughout. If your looking for an amazing fantasy read, I definitely recommend this one.

Final rating: ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ 5/5 stars

Skyhunter is such a hard book to review. The cover is absolutely gorgeous (I mean, take a look) and the book inside has some equally gorgeous parts. If you asked me to review this book right after I read it I would’ve probably had a hard time rating it anything other then a five. But now the magic has sort of faded. Don’t get me wrong, I will definitely be keeping up with this series, but the book isn’t really sticking out in my mind.

Final rating: unsure! maybe a 3.75 to a 4.

That’s all for today folks! Have you read any of these books? I will be updating everyone on Wednesday with what I will be doing for 100 followers, but until then happy reading!

  1. Maeve!! Congrats on 100 followers that’s incredible! 💖 I’m so happy to hear that you loved The Gilded Ones as well, agreed the characters are just so strong and amazing – I’m excited to see how Deka grows in book 2… thank you especially for your thoughts on Skyhunter, it’s been on my tbr for a while and though not the best, I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Thank you for the lovely post! 💙
