Blog Tour: The Sky Blues + Review + Moodboard

Hey bookworms! How’s it going? April is going to be, erm, blog tour month because I forgot to check when all of them started, and they all start in April. That was such a great idea, Maeve. Anyway, forgetting me being unorganized, I’m here with a pretty awesome blog tour! Thanks to Turn The Pages Tours for including me in this great opportunity. There’s also a giveaway for anyone looking for a chance of free books!

  • SYNOPSIS:

Sky’s small town turns absolutely claustrophobic when his secret promposal plans get leaked to the entire school in this witty, heartfelt, and ultimately hopeful debut novel for fans of What if it’s Us? and I Wish You All the Best.

Sky Baker may be openly gay, but in his small, insular town, making sure he was invisible has always been easier than being himself. Determined not to let anything ruin his senior year, Sky decides to make a splash at his high school’s annual beach bum party by asking his crush, Ali, to prom—and he has thirty days to do it.

What better way to start living loud and proud than by pulling off the gayest promposal Rock Ledge, Michigan, has ever seen?

Then, Sky’s plans are leaked by an anonymous hacker in a deeply homophobic e-blast that quickly goes viral. He’s fully prepared to drop out and skip town altogether—until his classmates give him a reason to fight back by turning his thirty-day promposal countdown into a school-wide hunt to expose the e-blast perpetrator.

But what happens at the end of the thirty days? Will Sky get to keep his hard-won visibility? Or will his small-town blues stop him from being his true self?

Review:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

There are certain things that I keep in the back of my mind, for days when everything seems to suck, that make me happy. This book has now been added to that list.

I’m a sucker for a good “found family” trope, and here we are with an amazing example! I loved the banter between characters, but I also loved how sweet and supportive they all are.

The characters themselves were very distinct and you could genuinely see them growing throughout the book. I honestly find it hard to pick a favourite. *the debate going on in my mind right now is giving me a headache*

The role adults, and parents, play in this book is really beautiful (and at times, heartbreakingly sad and frustrating, and at others hilariously adorable).

This book brought up so many important issues, especially ones queer people and ethnic minorities face in high school. I feel like these issues, such as being misgendered, are often blatantly ignored in YA books. I loved how all these voices felt like they were being written properly in this book, rather than the representation feeling stereotypical.

The writing style is something that has really stuck with me. I wouldn’t call it “informal” per se, but more like I was actually having a conversation with Sky, the main character. This book certainly gave me all the feels, but if, overall you’re looking for a book to make you happy, pick this one.

The ending! Please, if you’ve read this, I need to talk about how sweet it is!

Moodboard:

This is my moodboard! I made like five hundred of them, but I hope this one captures the essence of this book.
